Are you thinking about Home Modifications

Are you thinking about Home Modifications

22 Dec 2020

The Junction Works is pleased to announce that we are now offering NDIS Home Modification OT services for minor and major modifications that improve the liveability and safety of a participant’s home.

This service is undertaken by our Occupational Therapists qualified to provide Home Modification assessments using Improved Daily Living from your NDIS Plan.

This specialist OT service involves assessing the home environment, developing modification solutions and certifying the effectiveness of the modification to meet the participant’s goals and likely future needs.

Home modifications are changes to the structure, layout or fittings of a participant’s home so they can safely access it and move around comfortably in areas they frequently use.

Common home modifications include the installation of handrails, step-wedges, grab-rails, and widened doorways. More complex modifications include the installation of ramps and the modification of kitchens and bathrooms.

Home modifications may be included in a participant’s NDIS Plan if:

  • due to the impact of their disability, the participant or their carers cannot reasonably access specific rooms and spaces in their primary residence
  • the primary residence, in its current condition, has significant and adverse impacts on the sustainability of current living and care arrangements, and
  • a suitably qualified Occupational Therapist has performed an assessment and recommended home modifications, after considering all possible alternatives including the use of assistive equipment.

If you’ve been thinking that a home modification would increase your independence and safety within your home, call our Customer Engagement Team on 02 8777 0500, or email customer@thejunctionworks.org and we will talk you through the process.
