This update is about providing you with some new information about your transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
To make the transition to the NDIS easier for people, the NDIA has developed a stage called ‘My First Plan’
My First Plan is the plan participants will make when they first join the NDIS.
My First Plan will generally reflect the existing supports a person receives from The Junction Works and other providers. The Plan will be in place for 12 months.
My First Plan will not contain goals. Instead it will focus on maintaining the person’s existing supports
in the first year. The NDIA has stated:
“My First Plan will give people time to think about what they might need to help them achieve their goals before they do their next plan in 12 months’ time”.
Even though supports are likely to stay mostly the same under My First Plan, people will still have choice over who provides the supports, and will be able to change providers if they are dissatisfied with the service they receive.
Making your 'First Plan'
We understand that for most people, their First Plan is likely to be made over the phone rather than face-to-face.
If you receive a My First Plan telephone call from an NDIS representative, make sure you ask for any urgent additional supports you need, such as:
• Respite (due to carer fatigue)
• Therapy services such as speech pathology, behaviour support and OT
• Supported accommodation
Have the “Getting Plan Ready” document you completed with your Family Connect Worker at hand, so you can refer to it during the phone call. (This document is available to download under 'Resources' on our NDIS page).
