Parents, carers and individuals are 'Getting Plan Ready' at TJW NDIS Forums

10 Mar 2016

The Junction Works launched straight into planning for a positive future this month, hosting a series of forums to help individuals, parents and carers in South West Sydney navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Information sessions were delivered to over 130 parents and carers last week, at both The Junction Works Austral Service Centre for English speakers, as well as its Wetherill Park Vitality Centre for Vietnamese speakers.

The sessions were well-received, helping families in the NDIS 'get plan ready' by providing an opportunity to discuss changes, have their questions answered and commence their planning.

"The NDIS is the most positive thing for the future," said Chris Campbell, CEO of The Junction Works. "It is a transition for families, however the conversations that we can now have are about what the possibilities are, which is exciting."

Implemented by The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the NDIS is a new way of providing individualised support for eligible people with permanent or significant disability, as well as for their families and carers.

The Scheme has been introduced in stages throughout Australia and will be available from 1st July 2016 in South West Sydney. Trials have already commenced in other areas in NSW, such as the Hunter area and the Nepean Blue Mountains region.
