A Camden Show win!

22 Mar 2018

It has been said that the more one sows, the greater the harvest – and this has certainly proven true for a team of aspiring horticulturalists at The Junction Works!

Adults with a disability participating in our Cowpastures Community Garden are reaping the benefits of months of hard work, after their homegrown produce won prizes at last week’s Camden Show.

The team was delighted to take home first place across three categories in agricultural excellence, including sweet corn, white radishes and capsicums. (The Junction Works also took out first prize in the baked goods section with The Works Teaching Kitchen’s hot cross buns!)

Over 70 adults with moderate to high disability support needs are currently involved in the Cowpastures Community Garden skill development programs, which engages participants in all aspects of gardening from seed to harvest; this includes plant propagation, transplanting, fertilising, composting, weeding and harvesting, among other tasks.

The Community Garden has become a unique asset to The Junction Works, evolving through the dynamic expertise of garden and maintenance staff, as well as providing a sustainable source of produce for The Junction Works’ Teaching Kitchen. The garden is also a great opportunity for participants to socialise with friends, be active and appreciate working outdoors.

The Junction Works would like to congratulate the Cowpastures Community Garden Team for applying their skills to reach a great achievement in the community.
