With June around the corner, many of The Junction Works’ supporters are already making a difference by getting involved in the JUNK FREE JUNE Campaign.
As a month-long initiative of The Junction Works, Junk Free June aims to inspire people to improve their mental and physical health by giving up their ‘junk’ – letting go of an unhealthy habit, or starting something new, throughout the month of June.
The Campaign also seeks to raise enough money to build a new facility at The Junction Works, which will support people living with a disability in South West Sydney. This facility, called the 'Living Skills & Respite House', will support the intensive learning of daily living tasks for people with a disability, as well as build the confidence of their parents & families in their ability to live more independently.
Equally important, it will also provide essential respite to these families - many of whom currently face the uncertainty of who will care for their adult son or daughter with a disability, when they are no longer around or able to.
“Parents and families require support to plan for the future care of their child,” said Chris Campbell, CEO of The Junction Works. “This is where our Living Skills & Respite House is invaluable.”
In 2015, The Junction Works started fundraising through Junk Free June for this new facility, with the goal of raising $1.5 million. Through the generosity and support of the local community, almost $1 million has been raised.
“We are close to establishing this facility, which is exciting,” said Chris. “However we still have a bit to go before we have it up and running. We hope that Junk Free June 2016 will raise the roof on the Living Skills & Respite House.”
The Junk Free June Campaign will run from the 1st – 30th June 2016. There are many great ways for individuals, families, teams and communities to participate - from taking up a health challenge or hosting an event on GoFundraise, to joining a healthy workshop at The Junction Works or making a donation.
